Your resume is your initial sales tool

In the majority of cases, before you speak to a potential employer or even to a recruitment company, you will be required to send in the most up-to-date version of your curriculum vitae.

Your CV should be laid out as follows and contain the following:

  • No more than 2 – 3 pages detailing your relevant experience in bullet point form. Stick to what is relevant and don’t waffle.
  • A list of your major achievements for each of the roles you have undertaken. These should be laid out below the actual duties that you undertook and should again be in bullet point.
  • Your most recent or current role should be detailed first and then work through your other roles in reverse chronological order
  • In relation to Accounting Support resumes one of the key things that consultants and potential employers look for are volumes and values.

This is particularly relevant at the officer level.

Accounts Payable

For Accounts Payable roles it is important to detail the volume of invoices that your process along, the value of these invoices and whether or not your position is a full function AP role or not.

Accounts Receivable/Credit

For Accounts receivable roles again volumes and values are essential in terms of the volume of accounts who deal with, how much money you are targeted to collect, how your ledger is split etc

Payroll

For payroll positions of particular relevance is the number of people you process the payroll for, how often the pay run occurs and the breakdown between temp, contracting and permanent candidates.

  • Detail your reasons for leaving each position
  • When sending your resume please ensure it is accompanied by a cover letter that is specific to the position you are applying for. Generic cover letters are easily spotted and will not convince a potential employer that you are actually interested in their particular role.

A cover letter should outline the exact reasons why a specific role is of interest as well as detailing the reasons why you feel you are suitable for that position.

If a cover letter and resume are both succinct and outline the relevance of your experience to the position concerned then this will greatly improve your chances of being asked for interview.
