Gina’s Story at AccountAbility

Gina started her career in recruitment in 2015 in the UK and made the decision to move to Australia in 2019. She approached AccountAbility because her best friend secured a temporary accounts payable role through AccountAbility the year before. Her friend had a great experience with the team mentioning that out of all the agencies she dealt with in Sydney, AccountAbility was the most thorough and genuine and really got to understand her needs. Gina immediately knew this was the right team for her and got in touch with her resume and the rest was history. (And we’re ever so grateful).

From Consultant in 2019 to Divisional Lead of AccountAbility 2023. Not only does she champion her clients and candidates, but also her growing team in Sydney, and the successes keep coming.

We caught up with Gina about what keeps her motivated and what drives her:

You've been a recruiter since 2015, what keeps you coming back and motivated each day?

Recruitment is so rewarding, not only do you have a chance to make a real difference in your candidate’s life by landing them their dream role, but also with my clients, matching a company with their next top talent and helping them navigate a difficult time. I love building and maintaining long term relationships with my candidates and clients. One of the most rewarding things is seeing how they progress over the years.

What is it about the professionals and teams in this space that makes recruitment so rewarding?

How resilient and adaptable the professionals in the industry need to be. There are forever changing complex environments. It is a real joy to be able to assist teams and professionals to handle these changes.

What values do you think make a great recruiter, and why are they important in Accounting & Finance?

The main thing is always the cliché, but doing what you say you are going to do and delivering on that. Honesty and trust are key. People are trusting you with their lives essentially, so I wouldn’t want to place a candidate somewhere that isn’t right for them and vice versa with my clients. Communication is also important to really solidify that trust, nobody likes to feel excluded or removed from decisions that directly impact them. My final point would be relationship building skills, you should want to invest in people as a recruiter, in their careers, in their teams. I have candidates that I’ve placed many years ago and now I assist them in hiring for their own teams. Building relationships is rewarding, and you get to develop a real partnership based on trust.

How does AccountAbility help you achieve your personal career goals?

We have an amazing back-office team at AccountAbility that do so much behind the scenes, from marketing, to contractor support, systems, automations, the list is endless, and I couldn’t do my job without them! It is also so important to surround yourself with a good team whose values and morals are the same. We are all genuinely supportive and happy for each other, which is hard to find. Of course, I also love the satisfaction of hitting the incentives, vouchers, lunches and trips.
